uim-anthy: Getting started
uim-anthy is a Japanese input method for UNIX systems that uses the anthy library to convert Hiragana to kanji. Inputting Japanese takes three steps:
- The user types in roman letters that appear as Hiragana on the screen.
- The Hiragana are converted to Katakana and Kanji by the anthy library.
- The user can then manually fine-tune the result.
uim-anthy is controlled though the usage of several key combinations, similar to those found in other input methods.
Shift-space:
- Activate uim-anthy.
- Switch from zenkaku input mode to regular input mode.
- Deactivate uim-anthy.
Space bar:
- Start Hiragana to kanji conversion.
- Bring up a candidate list of possible kanji for a group of characters.
- Select a next candidate.
Left arrow/right arrow:
- Move left and right in the sentence being converted to adjust conversions.
Shift + left arrow/right arrow:
- Narrow or broaden the portion of text being converted.
Down arrow/up arrow:
- Select a next/previous candidate.
Ctrl + n/Ctrl + p:
- Select a next/previous candidate.
Page down/page up:
- Bring up a next/previous group of candidates.
F7:
- Convert text to zenkaku katakana.
F8:
- Convert text to hankaku katakana.
F9:
- Convert text to zenkaku English characters (scim-anthy)
Additionally, several key combinations are used to input special symbols:
xa, la : Small Hiragana a
xi, li : Small Hiragana i
xu, lu : Small Hiragana u
xe, le : Small Hiragana e
xo, lo : Small Hiragana o
xwi : Hiragana wi
xwe : Hiragana we
z/ : Kana middle dot
z, : Two middle dots
z. : Three periods
z- : Double-width tilde
zk : Up arrow
zj : Down arrow
zh : Left arrow
zl : Right arrow
